MR. J. DILLON
The Sequoias
Dear Mr. dillon:
\JAfter one and a half years at Sequoias without a regular parking place for
my car, I have become quite dissatisfied with the situation. I Know, of
course, that there are simply not enough car port spaces for every one and
I know that couples with more than one car are the ones that have to suffer.
Never-the-less, I do know that this rule is not uniformly inforced, for example
the two sisters next to us have two places.
It is bad enough when I am fortunate enough to find a place on the peripheral
road near our building (8. In the winter time I am frequently required to
scrape ice from the windows when I go out early in the morning, as I do every
week day and frequently on Saturday and Sunday as well. Then too it is not
always easy to remember where I was able to park. All too frequently, when
I return in the evenings around 5:15, I find that all of the spaces along
back near buildings 4, 8, and 12 are completely occupied and I am forced to
drive completely around and even sometimes to park in the guest parking lot.
Never-the less, in the mornings before 8, I always find that there are many
empty spaces along the back, usually as many as 4 or five. It would seem
that either there are many visitors who park there or that residents who have
car ports still leave their cars along the road until after dinner.
I can suggest three different ways in which the situation could be
ameliorated, asside from the correct one which would be to build more
car ports. These are:
1) Assign specific places along the periphery to individuals needing them and
mark the places as being reserved.
2) Issue car stickers to all those residents who need car ports and do not have
them and mark the positions along the periphal road as being reserved for
cars bearing these stickers.
3) Install a sign at the entrance to the peripheral road as a constant reminder
for visitors and residents alike, stating that all parking spaces along the
road were reserved for residents without assigned car ports. A notice has
appeared in he Sequoiaan to this effect and it has always resulted in a
temporary improvement in the situation, bbut people forget or get careless.
